Play Disc Golf for Free
One of the best things about disc golf is that the vast majority of courses are completely free to play. Approximately 85% of disc golf courses in the United States are located in public parks and charge no playing fee. You show up, find the first tee, and start throwing — no reservations, no memberships, no green fees.
Why Are Most Courses Free?
Disc golf courses are park amenities, like trails, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. They're installed and maintained using public parks funding, so there's no charge to use them. The baskets and tee pads cost a fraction of what other sports infrastructure costs — a full 18-hole course can be installed for $15,000 to $50,000, making it one of the most cost-effective recreation investments a municipality can make.
Finding Free Courses
When searching on ThrowSpot, look for courses tagged "Free" in their fee listing. Some courses show "Free" but note a small parking fee ($3 to $6) charged by the park — the disc golf itself is free, but the parking lot has a meter. Filter your search to show only public courses to focus on free options.
