Understanding Best Distance Drivers
Distance drivers (speed 10-14) are designed for maximum range off the tee. They have the sharpest outer edge and widest rim of any disc type, cutting through air efficiently at high speeds. However, they require significant arm speed — typically 50+ mph — to fly as intended. Throwing a distance driver too slowly causes it to fade hard left and actually fly shorter than a well-thrown fairway driver.
Our Recommendations
For beginners, avoid distance drivers entirely until you can throw a fairway driver 300+ feet consistently. When you're ready, start with understable options like the Innova Shryke or Latitude 64 Halo that are more forgiving of slower arm speeds. Intermediate players should look at the Innova Wraith, Discraft Zeus, or Dynamic Discs Raider for reliable, controllable distance. Advanced players typically carry 3 to 5 distance drivers covering understable, neutral, and overstable slots for different wind conditions and shot shapes.
